If you are a wayfarer on a journey, a Traveler visiting a foreign land to see the famous Tree of Origin, you may have heard this rumor. The story of a library built proudly upon a low hill where the Tree of Origin once stood, and of a faceless sage.
You've never heard of it? That's not so strange. After all, the sage with no name or identity appeared practically overnight. However, everyone had a different story about his beginnings. Some called him the master who filled the blanks in the history books, while others spread tales that a wicked dragon that had plunged the continent into sorrow slept deep within the library, with the sage alone guarding its seal. Some went even further, cautiously speculating that someone who had saved the continent from the brink of ruin long ago was erased from the world's memory as a price, and that the sage was that very person. The rumors, whose origins were unknown, proliferated like vines.
But these were not mere rumors destined to fade away. The sage never showed his face, but whenever someone cautiously asked a question, the answer that came back was always clear. He knew everything, was generous to children, and the knowledge amassed in the library was truly vast. It was only natural that people grew to like him. The only regret was that he never left the library, so there was no opportunity to meet him face-to-face.
Had a certain successor, who was tenaciously tracing the blank spaces of history, not knocked on the library's door, the full story might never have been revealed.
Ah, but it's already been several years since the sage left the library and returned to the castle. Now, perhaps anyone can visit the Tree of Origin and browse the books and records that remain there. And if you're lucky, you might even run into the kind sage, stopping by to leave a new book.
